I typed up a journal entry from my summer on a college route in Peru.
It starts out way too sappy and goes into that time I couldn’t kill a chicken.

At this very moment I cannot imagine ever leaving Peru. I know I haven’t written in a while but it is mostly because I am loving it too much. No but actually. This summer is one of those kick ass AMIGOS summers you hear about. I don’t think I could have dreamed a better summer.
The day after midterm I started feeling much better after lunch, so we decided to go house to house to talk about the Saturday workshop. And that is when Katherine (Project Director) found us!! It was really fun to see her and get to show her around our community. Nothing special happened the rest of the afternoon, I think we just hung out with our host families. Though I did finally wash my hair. But later at our taller we got a bunch of youth to write proposals for book donations for our library. We had about 10 of us working on them and it was so cool to see everyone working together on this.
Monday was (host sister) Karen’s 7th birthday!!!! So after eating breakfast we went back to my house to ask my host mom if we could make her a cake, and she said yes and gave us a few bowls and pots to make in it. And we all walked into Coya because there is no stove in our community. When we got to Coya we got to help make bread which was really cool, and after we did that we made our torta and baked it in their oven. It came out a little lopsided but oh well. When Karen came home and saw it with all the decorations she loved it, and after our taller we all ate it together with my family and celebrated her birthday with a ton of confetti. I had a lot of fun.
The next day (Tuesday) was my host mom Doris’ birthday, but we spent the morning at the puesto de salud. I got to go with the dentist to the primary school in Lamay to give floride to all of the kids. After that Julia and I walked home and I got to kill a chicken! Well, actually, I held the chicken for a while and then Edmundo killed it because I wasn’t strong enough. But still, it was awesome. While the chicken cooked we had our taller which wasn’t bad, and then we got to eat one of the best chicken dishes ever that my host mom made. And then after I played cards with my host family as usual.
And then I went right to bed because I was so crazy tired.
