Second week on route, and the vols are making moves! In Ojo de Agua, Iman and Emi Klein were leading awesome campamentos about leadership and civic participation. These two love to go on hikes together throughout the community, as it is very green and mountainous! They are working on a tree-planting project for their CBI, and they get along great with their host families. In Cañada María, Christian and Jared are the life of the party at many “fiestas” held in this community. I jokingly refer to them as the party boys, because they were invited to three fiestas in four nights! But these two have mastered the work hard/play hard balance. Their campamentos are excellent, and their community project of a children’s playground is coming along nicely. Next, I visited Totonundó with Marlye, Hope, and Ali H. Those three have an adorable attendance sheet for the niños, and it’s clear that the children love them. Their community project is underway- they are going to plant a garden in front of the community health building. Everyone seems excited to get started! And finally, I visited San Geronimo Sosola where Josh, Emmy Cole, and Mira continue to crack me up with their jokes and sense of humor. We are still deciding on a community project there, but campamentos are going well and the kids love all of the games they get to play with the volunteers. Also, all three volunteers understand their host families much better this week because their Spanish has improved, and because they are becoming familiar with each of their host family’s funny quirks.
