We are about to start the fifth week on route and we very than excited for enjoying our time ahead in Oaxaca! In Valles Centrales, Matthew, Moira and Matilda are having a fantastic time with community members and host families. They’re really involved in the Community Based Initiative Process, which is to plant native and fruit trees in the high school and elementary school of the town. In the Sierra Norte, Anaya and Maya are working on a CBIP with the Yagaa-tzi group in the community called Amatlán. This group is comprised of women who want to work making “Artesanías” (arts and crafts) to sell in the city. On the other side, also in the Sierra Norte, the girls in Capulalpam(Haley, Caitlin and Victoria) are working on three different projects, one related to diabetes prevention, one focused on bringing back Zapotec culture and language to the town, and one about planting Capulines trees in public spaces. All of them are having a great time with youth in their communities, collaborating in the extracurricular activities from different perspectives and in different important themes in their communities. We are ready to face more challenges and discover more things about ourselves!
