This week, we held our first campamento of the summer here in La Amistad! Our campamentos consist of manual labor throughout the park, various educational and recreational activities, and new friendships between American volunteers (from AMIGOS), and Tico volunteers (from our partner agency, Casa de la Juventud).

For our manual work in the park, we constructed a “bodega”- which will be used as a work and meeting space for park guards- and also worked on the trails used for hiking. Our construction work was extremely successful, as we all but finished in 4 work days (as seen in the photo!)

In the afternoons, we enjoyed ourselves with both educational and recreational activities. On our free day, we had a Costa Rican “rally”- full of obstacles, camp games, water and mud! We also had a talk from the park guards, and took a long hike to learn more about the nature and animals of the park.

Above all, volunteers had a great time getting to know each other throughout the week- and were so sad to see the campamento end. However, our AMIGOS volunteers are so excited to continue with their extracurricular activities and mini-proyectos in communities, and for their second block of campamentos on July 11th!

Hugs from Costa Rica,

Margarita, Talia, and Daniella

Margarita, Talia, y Daniella
