We’ve been working extremely hard to get ready for the arrival of our Summer Search participants here in Valladolid. On Saturday we held a training for host families and local youth from all of the different communities which will receive participants at the Yaxunah Cultural Center in Yaxunah (one of the communities where participants will be placed).

After a fun workshop led by Matias and Mari, two partner agency representatives who have been working close with us, we ate a delicious lunch of pork, black beans, hand-made tortillas, and agua de avena (oat water). After the workshop, one of the volunteers at the Cultural Center offered to give us all a tour of the Mayan ruins in the archaeological zone outside of Yaxunah.

Hemos estado trabajando mucho para preparar para la llegada de nuestros participantes de Summer Search aquí en Valladolid. El sábado, teníamos una capacitación para las familias anfitrionas y los jóvenes locales de todas las comunidades que van a recibir a los participantes en el Centro Cultural Yaxunah en Yaxunah (una comunidad que recibirá a los participantes).

Después de un taller divertido liderado por Matias y Mari, dos representantes de una agencia asociada que han estado trabajando con nosotros, comimos un almuerzo muy rico de puerco, frijoles negros, tortillas hechas a mano, y agua de avena. Después del taller, una voluntaria del Centro Cultural ofreció darnos un tour de las ruinas mayas en la zona arqueológica afuera de Yaxunah.

Todos estamos muy emocionados de conocer a los participantes. ¡Nos vemos muy pronto!
