Hi everyone! Last weekend we enjoyed a very exciting overnight midterm with all of our international participants, local volunteers, some nutritionists from our partner agency Puente a la Salud Comunitaria, and some local university students. We headed out to Etla, a small city about 40 minutes outside of Oaxaca, for two days of fun and team-building!

We started out with route time for our international participants, where they enjoyed catching up with other students on their route, calling families at home, and sightseeing in Etla, including visiting the market and the central plaza. Meanwhile, local volunteers and nutritionists were busy doing theater activities about leadership and human rights.

In the early afternoon, all our participants reunited for a delicious lunch followed by a busy afternoon of activities. Students had the opportunity to present about their CBIPs, share creative problem-solving strategies, and work on various challenges to promote teamwork and intercultural exchange. That evening, everyone was busy competing in fun challenges for Route Olympics, including a balloon race and a dance contest. After that, it was time for a tasty dinner of moles and tamales and then off to bed!

The next day, all participants had the opportunity to visit Monte Alban! Monte Alban is a beautiful and historic site of pre-Columbian Zapotec ruins with great cultural significance from Oaxaca. Volunteers had a wonderful time learning from their tour guide and taking photos. After that, it was time to return to communities feeling refreshed and ready for the second half of the summer!
