In-Person Training
AMIGOS will offer a two-day training for volunteers in the Houston area (including Austin) and in the San Francisco Bay area. Any volunteers who wish to attend these trainings may join, but if you do not live in Houston or the Bay Area, please contact our Admissions team at [email protected] to make sure we can accommodate you. AMIGOS will pay for accommodations, but not transportation*. Students in these regions will be required to attend in-person training as opposed to online training.**
*Exceptions apply. Please contact our Admissions team if you would like transportation support to attend in-person training.
**Admissions/training may advise students into the online training program if they have a major conflict. In addition, students who live outside of these geographical areas may opt to attend training, provided they arrange for their own transport/airfare to the training site.
San Francisco Bay Area: May 13–14, 2023
Houston: May 13–14, 2023
Online Training
National Chapter volunteers are required to complete training in order to participate in any AMIGOS program longer than 2 weeks.
Training for volunteers on three-week projects consists of modules on the Canvas online platform, done on your own time.
Training for volunteers on four- or six-week projects who live outside Houston and the Bay Area includes modules on the Canvas online platform done on your own time as well as three live Zoom sessions (between May 9th and June 2nd).
About Training
The online training consists of different activities where volunteers will develop some essential skills for their AMIGOS experience. These activities are divided into 4 categories:
AMIGOS will provide one webinar for parents and guardians to review health and safety protocols and address the main concerns related to the health and safety of volunteers during the AMIGOS program. Parents or guardians will be required to attend.
In these webinars, project staff will review project-specific information. Exact dates will be confirmed for each project, but they will take place in the first week of May 2023.
