-Camila Cubilla, National Participant in Isla Baez

Here we have an essay from a National Participant. She wrote this during her first week in community. They stay two weeks in community, after participating in the same training as the International Participants. Here we have her thoughts on her experience.

The first week is certainly not easy for anyone. The “radical” change is very difficult, getting used to the schedule, that silence that is sometimes relaxing, and sometimes a little disturbing, being away from what you are used to, leaving the comforts and luxuries aside, leaving family and friends, is a matter for brave people and above all, for people who want to make a change. We move away from our family to find a new one, we move away from our friends to make new friends, leave the comforts to live in a different reality.

In the first few days I got to know the children of the community who go to the campamentos, I met the ladies who want to help with the project and I met my host family, who I’m little by little growing to have a special affection for, and this is it precisely, to create change, to make an impact by loving what you do and loving the community where you are.

That is what the “Summer Program” is for, to create links, to create paths, unity and great affection.
