“The first week of route was a very exciting time to be visiting communities, as schools are getting out and summer vacation is beginning for most of our Latin American youth. Each graduation means a clausura or graduation celebration, often involving traditional dance, music, and some home-cooked snacks. In the community of Kancabdzonot while visiting Crystal and Katie we had the opportunity to attend one of these events. The energy was high and mood was very pleasant, which helepd the girls start to feel much more at home in Kancabdzonot. Visiting Luke and Cesar in Chimay meant many games of soccer, frisbee, and Uno. It was their third day in community and they already had a pack of kids that followed them around community, awaiting the next game. This and the nicknames that they have already been given made it look like home after only three days. In Tixcacaltuyub I hung out with Yessnia and Claudia and their host mom Doña Margarita. This is the first summer that Amigos has worked in Tixcacaltuyub and the girls are doing an amazing job of introducing the organization, representing the program, and having patience with the start of their projects. I feel so proud of everyone and can’t wait to see how much they have grown by next week!

-Sarah”
