Week 2 in Community: Updates from Kelvin and Noé
Kelvin:
When I first got to my community I felt culture shock almost instantly. Sleeping in huts and using a hammock as a bed, I felt so…shook. I guess I am just “too used to the city.” At least, according to my host family! My host family is pretty nice, when I was missing my family they gave me a hug and said they’d be my family for now. They make a lot of jokes and feed me and Noé A LOT. I’m still missing my family back in New York but my host family made living in my community a bit easier. Here in my community they have weekly baseball games and my host dad lets me and Noé watch the games with him and its awesome! I’ve had ups and downs this week but I know everything’s going to be okay. I cant wait to see my friends again and tell them all about my AMIGOS experience.

Voy hablar como ha estado esta semana aquí en la comunidad. El primer día que llegué con mi compañero, fue difícil porque nos separamos de nuestros compañeros ya que teníamos buena comunicación con ellos y los extrañamos mucho. Ha sido un cambio para nosotros como para nuestros compañeros por la distancia que estamos. Otra cosa que es dormir en hamaca ya que para mi es algo nuevo porque nunca lo había hecho y la verdad la primera noche que pasé fue algo diferente porque no estoy acostumbrado. Al siguiente día al despertar pude conocer mas a mi familia anfitriona y saber mas de ellos y saber como es su forma de vivir aquí en la comunidad. También tuve la oportunidad de conocer a todos los integrantes de la familia. Y pude conocer la comida que aquí se acostumbra comer fueron frijoles colados y a que yo no había probado los frijoles calados así como los comen aquí. Estoy muy contento porque la familia anfitriona son muy amables y me hacen sentir como en mi casa.
