Summer programs often take place during the rainy season, so students should expect warm weather, humidity, and regular rain. Highland areas can feel cooler, especially in the mornings and evenings. Quick-dry clothing, rain gear, and sturdy shoes are important.

Students do not need to be fluent, and Spanish requirements vary by program. Daily interactions, project work, time with host families, and community activities give volunteers many opportunities to practice and build confidence.

Projects vary by site and partner needs. In Panama, work may connect to sea turtle habitat protection, beach cleanups, sustainable farming, reforestation, community gardens, environmental education, youth activities, or community beautification.

Housing varies by program and location. Participants may stay with host families, in group lodging, or in other AMIGOS-approved accommodations, with program staff nearby for support.
