Hola Amigos!

I’m Claire and I’m absolutely thrilled to be the Project Director for Discover AMIGOS Costa Rica this summer! I was a volunteer with AMIGOS in San Pedro, Paraguay (2011), and Madriz, Nicaragua (Gap year program, 2013). I returned to work for AMIGOS as a Project Supervisor in San Juan, Dominican Republic (2015). AMIGOS has been such an important part of my life and I’m so excited to join you on what I hope will only be the first of many adventures with AMIGOS for you all.

I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and after my gap year with AMIGOS, I moved to St. Paul, Minnesota to attend Macalester College. When I wasn’t working for AMIGOS, I spent my summers working as a counselor at a Girl Scout camp in Washington state. I spent a semester of college in Valdivia, Chile, enrolled in the Universidad Austral de Chile. I took classes with Chilean medical students and did an internship at a community health clinic, where I was able to observe and participate in clinic visits as well as home visits with the nursing and obstetric teams.

After graduating with a B.A. in Sociology, Spanish and Community and Global Health, I worked for an immigration law firm in Minneapolis, MN, before returning to Seattle this winter to be closer to my family (and to get away from the impossibly cold midwestern winters). Some things I love doing are baking bread, practicing latte art, reading, and trying to teach my cat to walk on a leash.

¡Hola Amigos!
