First Week with Amigos by Tate, Andre, Natalia, and Melanie
Pura vida! Tuanis! We have been in Costa Rica for over 120 hours, we are now on day six. Before arriving we had many mixed emotions, like doubt, being nervous, and curiosity. At the airport it was basically every man for themselves. Now on day six we have changed from complete strangers to considering ourselves family.
The plane landed from Houston to Costa Rica at exactly 11:11 but we did not get to the hostel in Alajuela, Costa Rica till 1 am. Thankfully the AMIGOS staff gave us a burrito de pinto and we ate cake in honor of Alex’s birthday. Then we were assigned roommates.
The next day we traveled to Monteverde, Costa Rica. Right away Hotel Montana with an amazing lunch. Today, thankfully, we are still under the generous hospitality of the hotel that holds very kind staff. During the last course of the six days, we started with icebreakers to get to know each other, did a social contract of values, and have been attending Spanish classes to better our Spanish regardless of our level pace.
We attend Spanish class every day for two hours. We went to the Monteverde institute, where we helped continue the reforestation going on there. We also discovered and measured how clean the water is for its wildlife. Today in fact we went to Monteverde’s Jardin de Mariposas. It offered many species of butterflies with unique colors on their wings. In summary, these last six days we have learned to appreciate our beautiful and pristine environment.

La Primera Semana Con Amigos por Tate, Andre, Natalia, and Melanie
Pura vida! Tuanis! Hemos estado en Costa Rica por más de 120 horas, ahora estamos en el sexto día. Antes de venir a Costa Rica teníamos diferentes emociones como dudas, nervios y curiosidad de que iba a pasar. En el aeropuerto ninguno se conocía. Ahora en el día 6, las cosas han cambiado, hemos pasado de ser completamente extraños a considerarnos una familia.
El avión aterrizó a Costa Rica a las 11:11 pero al hotel en Alajuela, Costa Rica llegamos hasta la 1am. Gracias al staff de AMIGOS nos dieron un burrito de pinto y partimos un queque en honor al cumpleaños de Alex, uno de nuestros voluntarios. Luego, nos asignaron compañeros de cuarto.
Al siguiente día, viajamos a Monteverde. Inmediatamente, el Hotel de Montana nos recibió con un almuerzo. Hoy, estamos agradecidos de la generosidad y hospitalidad del hotel que tiene un increíble staff. Durante los últimos 6 días hemos realizado actividades para conocernos y convivir todos, hicimos un contrato de valores y hemos estado yendo a clases de español para aprender y mejorar el idioma paso a paso.
Vamos a las clases de español dos horas al día, todos los días. Fuimos al Instituto de Monteverde, donde ayudamos a reforestar. También descubrimos y medimos cuán limpia está el agua para los animales de la naturaleza. Por cierto, hoy fuimos al jardín de Mariposas de Monteverde. Tenía muchas especies de mariposas con colores únicos en sus alas. En conclusión, los últimos seis días hemos aprendido a apreciar nuestro prestigioso medio ambiente y nuestros nuevos amigos.
