Hi! Pura Vida!

For now, we have been in Costa Rica for almost five days. On the first day we drove to Monteverde. On the bus, we saw many small cities, beautiful forests, and many clouds. Once we arrived, a typical day in Monteverde consisted of a yoga/meditation, breakfast (generally with “gallo pinto”), an activity, lunch (with a delicious juice that contains a different fruit each day), Spanish class, a couple of games, dinner, and an assembly before free time and bed.

Getting to know each other and beginning AMIGOS training, we have participated in many discussions centering around our values, identity, privilege, and allies. Talking about our relationships to gender, religion, family, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, and race/ethnicity, we noticed how each of these factors impacts our lives differently and noticed our similarities/differences.

On the other hand, we’ve played many games like chair soccer, jeopardy, dancing, lip-synch battles, and playing cards. We’ve had a lot of fun while playing, dancing, laughing, and talking. We had a water balloon fight, which was very entertaining. One morning, we took a hike to visit a lagoon next to our hostel; we enjoyed the walk through the forest under the trees. Also, we have had a Spanish class every day, with games and vocabulary to learn more and improve our Spanish.

While experiencing the beautiful cloud forest in Monteverde, we’ve enjoyed learning more about each other and the culture in Costa Rica. We’re excited to begin going on excursions soon and interact with more Costa Ricans while exploring and supporting the local community!

Hola! Pura vida!
