Manglares en Isla Juan Venado / Mangroves in Isla Juan Venado
¡Buenos días familias! Les contaremos un poco de lo que hicimos hoy en nuestro viaje. Nos despertamos muy temprano para poder desayunar antes de iniciar nuestro viaje a los Manglares en la Isla Juan Venado, nos preparamos para conocer la flora y fauna de ese hermoso lugar acompañado de nuestros guías los cuales fueron los mismo que nos dieron el tour por la ciudad de Leon. Nos fuimos en bote hasta llegar a los manglares en donde pudimos apreciar de cerca la naturaleza del lugar, observamos aves, mapaches y algunos compañeros del grupo dijeron que pudieron ver un lagarto desde largo. Al regresar de los manglares nos detuvimos para estar en la playa divirtiéndonos un momento antes de regresar a nuestra casa en Poneloya.
Al fin llegamos a nuestro hogar temporal y tuvimos ahí el almuerzo luego una actividad de currículo y tiempo libre para descansar luego de un largo día.
Good morning families! We will tell you a little about what we did today on our trip. We woke up very early to have breakfast before starting our trip to the mangroves in Juan Venado Island, we got ready to know the flora and fauna of this beautiful place accompanied by our guides who were the same ones who gave us the tour of the city of Leon. We went by boat until we reached the mangroves where we could appreciate the nature of the place, we observed birds, raccoons, and some of the group said they could see a caiman from a long distance. Upon returning from the mangroves we stopped to hang out on the beach and have some fun before heading back to our home in Poneloya.
We finally arrived at our temporary home and had lunch there, then a curriculum activity and free time to rest after a long day.
La Salle
Today we woke up and had an exercise period that consisted of a soccer match on the beach. We then ate a nutritious breakfast of cereal and fruits. We had a quick drive to the Juan Venado nature reserve that consisted of a river tour and beach time. We headed back for a lunch of rice and pot roast. We also had a surprise birthday party for a fellow Amigo, complete with Tres Leches and a pinata. We then had free time and reflections and headed to bed.
Hoy despertamos a las seis quince de la manana y tuvimos un periodo de ejercicios que consistia en un Partido de futbol en la playa. Luego comimos un nutrito desayuno de cereal y frutas. Tuvimos un rapido viaje hacia la reserve natural Juan Venado que consistia de un rio y tiempo en playa. Regresamos a almorzar arroz y carne en caldillo. Tambien tuvimos un cumpleanos sorpresa de un miembro de Amigos, con Tres Leches y una pinata. Tuvimos tiempo libre y reflexiones y arrivamos a la cama.
Spanish Classes & Leadership Activities
We didn’t have any big excursions today, but instead stayed around our wonderful beach house! Everyone got to wake up a little later today and we had a great breakfast of gallo pinto and fried plantains. In the morning some groups did leadership activities that covered everything from receiving and giving feedback to what we viewed as critical parts of our identities. Others had Spanish classes. For lunch, we had rice, meat with chilotes, and tortillas. After lunch, the groups switched, so those who did leadership activities did Spanish and vice versa. We had lots of free time in between lessons. Unfortunately, the hammock hut that was used so much during free time fell today, and we couldn’t spend as much time down by the beach. The day was relaxing and a good time to rest before taking on more big adventures.
! Hoy no tenimos excurisons grandes, pero en contrasto, nos quedamos en nuestra casa de la playa fantastica! Todos se despiertaron tarde y teniamos un desayuno fabuloso de gallo pinto y platanos fritos. Para la manana unos grupos hacieron el curriculo de Amigos, que cubrio todo de reciebe y da retroalimentatcion y tambien las cosas que son partes criticales de nuestras identidades. Los otros grupos tenieron clases de espanol. Por almuerzo, comimos arroz, carne con chilotes, y tortillas. Despues de almuerzo, los grupos que hicieron el curriculo hicieron espanol y los que hicieron espanol hicieron curiculo. Teniamos mucho tiempo libre entre las clases. Unfortunatemente, la casita de amacas que todos le encanta, se cayo hoy y no podiamos pasar tanto tiempo por la playa. !El dia fue muy tranquilo y un tiempo bueno para descansar antes de tendriamos mas aventuras grandes!
Hervideros San Jacinto / San Jacinto Hot Springs & Mud Pots
Today was an interesting day. We woke up around 6:15 for exercise time and 6:50 for breakfast. The breakfast was an amazing meal of fruit, pancakes, and of course lots of syrup. We then gathered on the bus at 7:50 to go to an excursion that taught us about boiling mud pots and the necessities of clean water. The mud was very interesting because it is caused by underwater supplies of boiling water which boils to the top causing boiling mud. The other place we went to was called Union España. The water in that region was contaminated with arsenic. We learned how they cope with that with different water supplies for different uses, for example, very clean water for drinking and cooking, and not as clean water for washing clothes and showering. We had a late lunch at home (pasta and salad). We had a moral bonding curriculum and then two hours to ourselves. For dinner, we had eggs, fried cheese, plantains, and gallo pinto. The group then enjoyed our nightly assembly and went to bed at 9:15 pm, ready for our last full day in Poneloya before we head up north to Somoto.
Hoy ha sido un día interesante. Nos hemos levantado a una hora decente, alrededor de las 6:15 para hacer ejercicio y a las 6:50 para desayunar. El desayuno fue una comida increíble de fruta, panqueques y, por supuesto, mucho jarabe. Luego nos reunimos en el autobús a las 7:50 para ir a una excursión que nos enseñó sobre los pozos de barro hirviendo y las necesidades de agua limpia. El lodo era muy interesante porque se produce por el suministro de agua hirviendo bajo el agua que hierve hasta la cima causando lodo hirviendo. El otro lugar al que fuimos se llamaba Unión España. El agua de esa región estaba contaminada con arsénico. Aprendimos cómo lo afrontan con diferentes suministros de agua para diferentes usos, por ejemplo, agua muy limpia para beber y cocinar, y agua no tan limpia para lavar la ropa y ducharse. Almorzamos tarde en casa a las 14:30 (pasta y ensalada). Tuvimos un programa de unión moral y luego dos horas para nosotros. La cena fue a las 7:00pm y comimos huevos, queso frito, plátanos y gallo pinto. El grupo de Amigos disfrutó entonces de nuestra asamblea nocturna y se fue a la cama a las 9:15 pm, listos para nuestro último día completo en Poneloya antes de dirigirnos al norte, a Somoto.
