Santa Elena: Updates from Project Staff
All Project Staff arrived in Santa Elena Monday this week! By Tuesday, our Project Coordinators (PCs), Sebastian, Ellie, and Amelia, were already undergoing training, reviewing the details of the project, and sharing our AMIGOS experiences with one another. From one day to the next, Staff House came alive with music and excited Spanglish conversations about the summer ahead. Although we almost ran out of groceries during our 3-day quarantine, the team cherished the opportunity to bond and continue the work of preparing for our volunteers.
On our first day out of quarantine, we had the pleasure of introducing the recently-arrived project coordinators to our partner agency counterparts. After the initial introductions, they immediately broke off into working groups to schedule community visits, share information about bus routes, and, of course, talk about the wonderful host families we’ll be working with this year.
Since each host community was carefully selected in collaboration with PLAN International, the PLAN team has offered to accompany project coordinators on their first community visits. While the PCs discuss the finer details of the AMIGOS program, their partner agency counterparts will be facilitating training on child protection. A perfect example of the profound relationship forming between our two organizations, coming together with the shared vision of making a positive impact on Ecuadorian families and communities.
Next week, Sebastian, Ellie, and Amelia will be going on Community Survey. In addition to training host families, they will be staying overnight with the very same host families volunteers will be meeting less than a month from now. They will be confirming the details of the Service Projects volunteers will be carrying, scouting the spaces where volunteers will host extracurricular activities, and meeting some of the local youth our AMIGOS will be working shoulder to shoulder with.
As you can see from our smiles, there is palpable excitement growing about the AMIGOS Santa Elena Project this summer. We cannot wait to meet our volunteers and the beautiful experiences they build from this foundation we’re laying.
¡Todo el personal del proyecto llegó a Santa Elena el lunes de esta semana! Para el martes, nuestros Coordinadores de Proyecto, Sebastián, Ellie y Amelia, ya estaban recibiendo capacitación, revisando los detalles del proyecto y compartiendo sus experiencias con AMIGOS. De un día para otro, Staff House cobró vida con música y conversaciones animadas en spanglish sobre el verano que se avecinaba. Aunque casi nos quedamos sin alimentos durante nuestra cuarentena de 3 días, el equipo apreció la oportunidad para vincularse y continuar el trabajo de preparación para nuestros voluntarios.
En nuestro primer día fuera de la cuarentena, tuvimos el placer de presentar los coordinadores AMIGOS recién llegados a nuestras contrapartes de agencias asociadas. Después de las presentaciones iniciales, se dividieron en grupos de trabajo para programar visitas a las comunidades, compartir información sobre rutas de bus y, por supuesto, hablar sobre las maravillosas familias anfitrionas con las que trabajaremos este año.
Dado que cada comunidad anfitriona fue cuidadosamente seleccionada en colaboración con PLAN International, el equipo de PLAN se ofreció a acompañar a los coordinadores del proyecto en sus primeras visitas a la comunidad. Mientras los coordinadores discuten los detalles más finos del programa AMIGOS, sus contrapartes facilitarán una capacitación sobre protección infantil. Este esfuerzo compartido es un ejemplo perfecto de la profunda relación que se forma entre nuestras dos organizaciones, nutriendo nuestra visión compartida de tener un impacto positivo en las familias y comunidades ecuatorianas.
La próxima semana, Sebastian, Ellie y Amelia estarán visitando comunidades. Además de capacitar a las familias anfitrionas, pasarán la noche con las mismas familias anfitrionas que los voluntarios se reunirán dentro de menos de un mes. Ellos confirmarán los detalles de los Proyectos de Servicio que llevarán a cabo los voluntarios, explorarán los espacios donde los voluntarios realizarán actividades extracurriculares y conocerán a algunos de los jóvenes locales con los que nuestros AMIGOS trabajarán hombro a hombro.
