Summer is almost here, and our 2019 Amigos are already starting to pack for their adventures! We are so excited to showcase some of these young leaders heading to Latin America this summer with  “Amigos of the Week,” an ongoing series highlighting them.

Here are this week’s Amigos:

Coco Stevens

Project: Coclé, Panama
Location: Green Mountain Falls, Colorado. A wonderfully small mountain town.
Favorite food: Beets or ice cream.
Pets: I have a cat named Kit Kat.
Llama or Sloth: Llama!
Favorite band/artist: Vance Joy
What’s your superpower? Finding awesome things at thrift stores.
What are you most excited to do this summer in Latin America? I am really excited to improve my Spanish and experience something completely different from my daily life. I am also excited to help others while they help me!
Why did you decide to do AMIGOS? My dad did AMIGOS over 25 years ago, and to this day he still remembers so much of his trip. He said it was one of the best experiences ever. I want to improve my Spanish, so I knew that I had to go to a Spanish speaking country to become more fluent. AMIGOS was the right choice.
Favorite sport or team: Golf.
Favorite book: I’ll Give You the Sun by Janet Nelson
What do you want to be when you grow up? An occupational therapist or a physical therapist.
Describe yourself in 5 words or less: passionate, caring, bright, and fun
What’s something you want people to know about you? I’m left handed for writing, but I do almost everything else with my right hand (using scissors, knives, throwing, etc.)

 

Emerson Lindgren

Project: Palmares, Costa Rica
Location: Austin, TX
Favorite food: Pancakes
Pets: An Australian shepherd lab named Rumi
Why did you decide to do AMIGOS? I chose to do AMIGOS because I’ve always wanted to immerse myself into a different culture and take my Spanish to a whole new level.
Describe yourself in 5 words or less: I would describe myself as adventurous, extroverted and generous.

 

 

 

 

Amelia Meaux

Project: Azuero, Panama
Location: I’m from a small town called Davis in California.
Favorite food: My favorite food is chocolate even though some people say that doesn’t count as a food.
Pets: I have a small chihuahua named Poppy.
Llama or sloth? I prefer sloths over llamas.
Favorite band/artist: The Beatles
What’s your superpower? If I could have a superpower I’d want the ability to fly.
What are you most excited to do this summer in Latin America? For my summer with AMIGOS, I am most excited to experience a new culture and get better at Spanish.
Why did you decide to do AMIGOS? I joined AMIGOS to strengthen my character and gain leadership skills.
Favorite sport or team: Soccer
Favorite book: Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be a writer or a neuroscientist.
