A Day In The Life: City Tour of Leon
We had a very exciting day. For breakfast we had eggs, ham, and bread. After, we started our tour of Leon with our tour guides named Rydder and Idania. We started by visiting Sutiaba, the indigenous neighborhood of Leon. We saw the ruins of the first church of the Spaniards and walked the cobblestone roads. We walked by a preschool mural that included symbols representing Nicaragua’s culture, the translations of different words in Nahualt and a computer with the sign language alphabet.
We then traveled to Cosa de Horno. Cosa de Horno had multiple types of pastries: sopa de leche, quesadilla, y perrerreque. The pastries were very good. We stopped by the Museum of Rub(en) ́ Dari ́o. Then, we went to a local market, where we were able to buy many different types of food and handmade goods. After the market, we had lunch at a restaurant and watched a presentation about Nicaraguan culture.
We made our way to a handmade textile business called La Fe. We were able to try to work the machines and make the textiles. We learned that it was a family business and was started by one woman. We learned that the textiles could take anywhere between 8 hours to a week. After the textile business, we made our way to La Catedral de Leon and toured the inside, then climbed to the roof and saw a view of all Leon. Finally, we walked to the Museum of 21 Legends and Myths and learned about the legends and history of Nicaragua. We returned to the house and had a dinner of Gallo Pinto, cheese, and avocado.
