La Costa – Session B Week 2
Our second week at Rio Muchacho has been a blast! Our first day we took a trip to Rancho Mila where we were given a tour of the ranch and he had the opportunity to milk a cow. We then made cheese and then ate it. Mmmm. We then had lunch which included a meatball with rice, a potato, and salad. We then went on a tour of Bahia with the Eco club where we learned about earthquakes.
The next day we took a small hike lead by Dario, where we learned about the pre-Jurassic plant that could only be pollinated by giant rats who would eat its fruit. The next day was full of community service and construction at the local community building. We stripped the paint, repainted the walls, and planted a row of trees on the outside. We then freshened up and learned how to make chocolate out of cacao beans.
The next day we took a bus to Rancho Xanadu where we had fun mixing mud with our feet and dancing. We then used the mud to fill in the walls of a meditation center that they were building. On Friday we took a bus to Bahia and took boats to Isla Corazon where we had a Sendero tropical. After that we had a delicious lunch at a shrimp farm, then we participated in a beach clean-up with Pangea and the Eco club kids. We played soccer and swam after we were done.
On Saturday we woke up and learned about El Festival del Platano. We went to cut down plantain trees to replant them. Later that day we did charcoal masks with a partner and it was super refreshing. Later that night we had a bonfire where we each chose a stick and a rock. With the stick we thought of a struggle we had during the trip and then threw it into the fire and with the rock, we thought of something we want to take with us from our experience. On Sunday we performed our plays from Spanish class and then we had more community service in which the Eco club came to give a hand and after our community service we finished the day off with a soccer game. This week was super fun and great to do, and we all got super involved with helping and the community work was super awesome to do!
¡Nuestra segunda semana en Rio Muchacho ha sido muy divertida! Nuestro primer día fuimos de paseo a Rancho Mila donde nos dieron un tour del rancho y tuvimos la oportunidad de ordenar una vaca, luego hicimos queso y lo comimos. Luego almorzamos lo que incluyo albóndigas, arroz papas y una ensalada. Ahí fuimos a un tour de bahía con el Ecoclub donde aprendimos sobre los terremotos.
El siguiente día tuvimos una caminata liderada por Daria, donde aprendimos sobre una planta pre-jurásica que solo podía ser polinizada por ratas gigantes que comen esta fruta. El segundo día fue lleno de servicio comunitario y construcción en la casa comunitaria. Quitamos la pintura y repintamos las paredes, plantamos una cerca de arboles en la parte de afuera. Luego nos refrescamos y aprendimos como hacer chocolate de granos de cacao. El siguiente día tomamos un bus a Rancho Xanadu donde nos divertimos mezclando lodo con nuestros pies mientras bailábamos, usamos el lodo para llenar las paredes de un centro de meditación que estaban construyendo. El viernes tomamos un bus a Bahía y nos subimos en botes para la Isla Corazón donde tuvimos un sendereo tropical. Luego tuvimos un delicioso almuerzo en una granja de camarones, luego participamos en una limpieza de playa junto a Pangea y los chicos del Ecoclub. Jugamos futbol con ellos y cuando término, fuimos a nadar.
El sábado nos despertamos y aprendimos sobre cocina en el Festival del plátano, fuimos a cortar arboles de plátano, luego ese día hicimos mascarillas con arcilla con un compañero cada uno y fue muy refrescante. Mas tarde esa noche tuvimos una fogata donde cada uno de nosotros eligió un palo y una piedra, con el palo pensamos en algo que fue un reto para nosotros y luego lanzamos al fuego, con la roca pensamos en algo que queríamos llevarnos con nosotros de la experiencia. El domingo tuvimos nuestras obras de teatro de la clase de español y luego tuvimos mas servicio comunitario con los chicos del Ecoclub que fueron también a ayudar y cerramos el día con un partido de futbol, esta semana fue muy divertida y fantástica de realizar, y todos estuvimos involucrados ayudando el servicio comunitario que fue increíble hacer.
