Hola a todos!

Me exploring the beautiful country of Panama

My name is Karol Lopez and I will be your Project Director for Discover AMIGOS: Panama this summer. I’m originally from Bogota, Colombia but I lived for many years in United States.

After serving 3 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Madagascar, my passion for service and travel grew much stronger than ever and I found myself lost after leaving my beloved community. I knew that I wanted to continue the similar path Peace Corps had shown me in a foreign land. That path led me to AMIGOS and I couldn’t be happier.

Being the Project Director is allowing me to learn about the Panamanian way of life while making sure our Discover AMIGOS Program this year is full of exciting and challenging adventures for all the volunteers.

I obtained my B.S. in Biology with a minor in Public Health from University of South Florida (USF) and I later decided to pursue my Master of Public Health at the Florida International University (FIU). I worked as medical interpreter at the Washington Hospital Center in D.C. and that job was my inspiration to focus my career in social service and public health.

I have lived in several places including Miami, Tampa, Washington D.C., Monterrey, Mexico, Fortaleza, Brazil, and Kianjavato, Madagascar. Now I can add Penonomé, Panama to my list!

Traveling, biking, hiking, dancing and reading are by far my favorite hobbies.

Estoy muy emocionada de darle la bienvenida a nuestros voluntarios este verano.
