A new tradition to support AMIGOS programs and Financial Assistance Fund
The first virtual Adelante Festival in 2020 brought together the AMIGOS community and raised $130,000 during the unprecedented times of the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival’s silent auction was a great success and started a new tradition for the organization.
This year’s silent auction launches in early September. You can donate items through August 15th in our many auction categories which are listed on the 2021 Adelante Festival webpage here.
Check out a few of the unique experiences from the 2020 auction below. These donors displayed their ingenuity in curating unique experiences that met social distancing requirements.
Virtual Screening of Trash Dance
Alum Allison Orr (’89, ’90, ’91, ’93) and Andrew Garrison, AMIGOS parent, teamed up in 2012 to show us that sometimes inspiration can be found in unexpected places. They hosted an exclusive screening of their award-winning documentary Trash Dance.
The winning auction winners tuned in from across the U.S. to screen the documentary and chat with Allison, Andrew, and Don one of the film’s stars.
Learn more about Andrew’s new project “Why I’m Here” and Allison’s ongoing work at Forklift Danceworks.
A “Day on the Bay” with Captain Steve
Steve Sharpe (’69–’74) shared his love for boating with “Day on the Bay” and cruising the Annapolis waterfront. Three families joined the ranks of legendary Amigxs who have taken the plunge with Captain Steve over the years. The groups waited until spring 2021 to take their excursions.
You’re in luck, Captain Steve is auctioning off these boating excursions again in the 2021 Adelante Festival Auction!
Virtual Wine Tasting from Italy
The winning bidder enjoyed a virtual group tasting wine from Fontefico, an organic boutique winery in Vasto, Italy. Each of the four groups received 3 bottles to enjoy while observing social distancing during the pandemic. Fontefico recorded a personalized video describing each of the wines for the virtual tasting experience.
Fontefio’s organic wines are single-vineyard wines and are made only with indigenous grape varieties, such as Pecorino Superiore, Trebbiano Superiore, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, and Aglianico.
