AMIGOS Ecuador Project Visit

The 2018 Ecuador Project trip will take place from July 10-16, 2018. The idea was generated by AMIGOS alumni Doug Alexander (1970, ’71, ’72, ’73,’74, ’75) and Ed Cazier (’76, ’77, ’78, ’79, ’81) who will serve as “Chairs” of the trip.  They each wanted to offer some of our valued stakeholders the opportunity to reconnect with AMIGOS in the field today.

Who will attend? Dedicated AMIGOS alumni, including some who served in Ecuador, parents of alumni and our current leaders and supporters. As this is the first trip of its kind in many years, we know we are inviting just a subset of the people who meet these criteria. We are hopeful that this experience will pave the way for many more project visits of this kind in the future.

Our goals: We hope that this visit will foster continued engagement and support of the AMIGOS mission and an interest in possible future leadership of the organization.

During our time together, you will have the opportunity to engage with national and local partner agency staff, AMIGOS project leadership team members (formerly known as “field” or “project staff”) , current Amigos from the U.S., and Ecuadorian alumni from our Summer and Youth Ambassador Programs.

Below is the overview of the itinerary for the visit. More details will be added on as they are confirmed. We ask that attendees arrive no later than July 10 in the evening, as the group will convene for our first meeting on the morning of July 11. The formal meeting events will conclude with dinner in Quito on Sunday, July 15. An optional excursion to the Galapagos is available to all trip participants who are interested.

AMIGOS returned to Ecuador in 2010 after a 10 year hiatus. From 2010-2015, AMIGOS collaborated with Plan International and FEPP, a national Ecuadorian NGO, in Cotopaxi, Ecuador. In 2016, the project moved to its current location in Chimborazo, Ecuador.
